What the widget does for your website
Surfers and beachgoers check conditions every single day. Put that daily habit on your site and it works for you.
Turns visitors into regulars
Checking the surf is a daily ritual. Host the forecast and your site becomes the place they do it, day after day, not a one-off visit.
More traffic and exposure
Every return visit is another chance to show your bookings, menu, memberships or news. The surf brings them in; your site does the rest.
Longer time on site
Live conditions give people a reason to stay and explore instead of bouncing. Great for engagement and for search engines watching it.
Always-fresh content
Your page updates through the day without you lifting a finger, a freshness signal your static competitors do not have.
Ratings surfers trust
Every spot's rating is calibrated by surfers who actually surf it, not just spat out by a global weather model. An 8 out of 10 means paddle out.
Free. Actually free.
No account, no API key, no trial, no traffic caps, no maintenance. Built by the NZ surf community and funded by Aotearoa Surf School.

Questions, answered
Is the surf forecast widget really free?
Yes. Completely free, forever. No account, no API key, no credit card, no traffic limits. Copy the snippet, paste it into your site, done.
Does the widget update by itself?
Yes. It shows the same live data as surfcheck.nz, refreshed through the day. Ratings, wave height, wind, period and the outlook stay current with zero work on your side.
Will it slow my website down?
No. The widget is a single lazy-loading iframe, so it loads after your own content and runs entirely on our servers. Your page speed and SEO are unaffected.
Can I choose what it looks like?
Yes. Six options: compact card, 7-day strip, 7-day grid, full forecast, a Max view with secondary swell and surf-height words (knee, waist, chest), or fully custom where you tick exactly the rows you want. All in light or dark themes, picked live in the embed window.
Which spots can I embed?
Any of the 124 surf spots on SurfCheck, from Northland to Southland. Open any spot page and hit Embed this forecast.
Does it work on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix or Shopify?
Yes. Anywhere you can paste HTML: a Custom HTML block in WordPress or Squarespace, an embed element in Wix, or a custom liquid section in Shopify. See the step-by-step guide at surfcheck.nz/how-to-embed for eleven platforms.
